A Word On Sustainability.

There is a general rise in consciousness of what we eat and what we wear. This is a good thing. For less carbon footprints. For our beloved planet. And so forth. At Molini London, once we decided to start a satin & silk brand, we made the decision to be as sustainable and ethical as possible. Now, we couldn’t have possibly picked more elusive & expensive sustainable fabrics to use, but it was all worth it. The fashion industry as a whole needs to get more ethical and sustainable.

As more fabric makers & suppliers switch to sustainable and ethical means, we hope to find more and more options, which will drive down the fabric price, and more importantly, much cheaper final products for the consumers.

A few important things to note are: one must make the distinction between “sustainable” and “ethical” fashion. A lot of fabrics may be made ethically, but they may not be sustainable products. The ethical aspect usually refers to how something is made, working conditions, and fair wages. Sustainable fashion is more concerned with the commercial strain, the environment and longevity. It is also important to note that some “organic” fabrics may not be sustainable at all, as with some organic cotton fabrics, which use a lot of water during their dye process.

At Molini London we explored & looked into “recycled polyester” as well as research on “peace silks” plus “vegan satin” … making sure they were fabrics that were GOTS certified. This meant having to choose from only fabrics that were produced in non-cruel processes, use no pesticides, fungicide or genetic sprays, while also respecting biodiversity and without degrading the environment. Another important aspect was to make sure that the supply chain was entirely traceable from our fabric suppliers to the final product.

For now, we use fabrics by TESEO, based in Italy, and BOMBYX, based in Hong Kong as our two fabric suppliers. All of our production is done locally, at a studio in Stratford, East London.

Our pieces are made from extremely high quality sustainable fabric, and thus last longer, less harmful to the environment, but more importantly, we are hoping they will be extremely valuable & beloved luxurious pieces in your wardrobe.

Lastly, we are a “made after order” brand. So we don’t keep hundreds of items or fabric in stock. We only make anything after it’s ben actually ordered. Addressing the issue of overproduction & minimising waste all round.

Eventually, we hope to be the main stop for most people’s satin & silk high fashion needs.

Thanks for your support.
